How we calculate

Every size is first turned into foot length in millimeters, then into each system with the formulas published for ISO 19407: UK = 3 × mm ÷ 25.4 − 23, US women’s = UK + 2 (some brands use UK + 2.5, the “common” scale), EU = 0.15 × mm + 2, Japan = foot length in half-centimeter steps. Brand lasts differ, so treat the result as a starting point, usually within half a size.

The recall check matches your words against the product, firm, retailer, style numbers and barcodes in each U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission footwear recall we hold, refreshed nightly. No match does not prove a shoe is safe: confirm on the official notice or at cpsc.gov.

Five things that go wrong

Hazards
Falls27A fall-hazard recall means the shoe can fail while you are standing or walking on it.
Choking42Every choking-hazard footwear recall in our archive involves children’s shoes, and almost all of them involve a decoration: a flower, pearl, rhinestone, pom-pom, unicorn horn, snap, rivet or logo tag that can come off and fit in a small child’s mouth.
Chemicals and lead9Chemical recalls are about what the shoe is made of rather than how it breaks.
Cuts and scrapes10Laceration recalls cover shoes with metal or hard parts that can cut the wearer or whoever handles the shoe: metal thread or wire that pokes through the lining, rivets or studs with sharp edges, metal trim that peels away, or in a well-known 2001 case, a metal strip in the sole of a cross-training shoe that could cut the lower leg..
Impact and crush12Impact and crush recalls are about protective footwear that does not protect as labeled.

Why this site exists

Each CPSC recall is published as its own notice, and a search for “heel” or “pump” in the official database returns heat pumps and wheels alongside shoes. We pull out the footwear, sort it by who wore it and what went wrong, and add the comparisons a single notice cannot give: how big the recall was against others, how long the shoes were on sale and how many similar failures came before. Read more about us or see how the data is built.
